EVENTS & FUNDRAISERS

“A MEAL THAT HEALS”

a meal that healsThe Free Clinic Network’s fourth annual A Meal that Heals dinner to benefit the Viola Startzman Free Clinic took place on Monday, January 25, 2010 and raised $19,800. Over 600 meals were served. The event was again generously hosted by TJ’s trio of restaurants in downtown Wooster. This year’s sponsors were Flo and Stanley Gault, Technigraphics Systems and Shisler’s Cheese House.

Highlights from the evening included music — provided by Good Vibes, Wendy Barlow on harp and Bob Bellamy on hammer dulcimer — celebrity bartending, and a raffle for items donated by area business, including pottery by Jim Spires, jewelry by Mackenzies Silver Lining, a “Wooster Sampler” from Main Street Wooster and fabric art by artist Sonja Tugend.  Peggy Schmitz, Greg Long, Dr. Charlie Brown, Alicia Wallace, Ron Holtman, Mayor Bob Breneman, Dick Benson and Andrei Dordea were this year’s celebrity bartenders.

Thank you to the Free Clinic Network, this year’s sponsors, TJ’s restaurant, the many volunteers who helped with the event and to everyone from the community who came and showed support of the VSFC! We hope to see you next year!

Wine Tasting

This year, in addition to a variety of quality wines, the event also included a selection of upscale beers from around the world. As in past years, the event featured live piano music, hor d’oeuvers, desserts, silent and live auctions. Auction items included a cherry wine cabinet, a Thai dinner for eight, a 1-week stay in a condo at Hilton head, golf packages, Cavs tickets and much more. Thank you to this year’s sponsors: RAV Financial Services, LLC; First Merit Bank; Richard Law Office, LLC; United Titanium, INC; David Spector.

Thank you to the wine tasting committee whose efforts made this event possible, and to the community for coming out to support the VSFC!.

“CLAYWARE FOR HEALTH CARE” EVENT A Success

The Free Clinic Network’s second annual “Clayware for Health Care” event was held on November 24 at Moorefield Pottery and South Market Bistro. Chances were sold for a handmade set of pottery dinnerware created and donated by Emily Moorefield, and a dinner for four at the Bistro donated by Mike Mariola. Freeman Building Systems supported the event. Wine and cheese, compliments of South Market Bistro, and hors d’oeuvres, provided by Donna Hann of The Culinary Artist, were served.
