The Free Clinic Network's annual Meal That Heals dinner to benefit the Viola Startzman Clinic will take place on Monday, January 26, 2014.  Last year's event raised over $19,000 to support the Viola Startzman Clinic, so we are again hoping for a great year! The event this year will again be generously hosted by TJ's trio of restaurants in downtown Wooster and is sponsored by Stanley C. Gault, The Romich Foundation, and The Commercial and Savings Bank.  For tickets, stop by the Viola Startzman Clinic or ask any Free Clinic Network member or VSC Board of Trustees member.

Here at The Viola Startzman Clinic we not only believe in the care we provide to our patients, but we also believe in our patients themselves. We encourage our patients to push beyond the barriers life throws in their way and reach for their dreams. Recently, we've been honored to partner with a patient who has done just that.

In 1998, after a gunshot wound brought Brock's life to a screeching halt, he found himself at our clinic to deal with both the physical and emotional trauma of his incident. The staff here "really cared about me", says Brock. Through their encouragement, as well as that from a friend and his parents, Brock made the decision to start a new hobby - glasswork - that eventually has lead to a career. Today, Brock is an incredibly talented (but very humble) glass artist. He makes glass jewelry and stained glass pieces that range from picture frames to windows and sun catchers, lamps and so much more.

Brock says he has always wanted to support the free clinic, and recently has committed to giving back to the clinic in a unique way. Begining July 1, Brock's glass art will be on sale at Quailcrest Farms, with proceeds from the sales being donated back to The Viola Startzman Clinic. When asked why he chose to give back to the clinic, Brock says, "The clinic has made my life so much better, it really has." Brock is an amazing man, and we are blessed to have him on our team.

The Viola Startzman Clinic was chosen as the sole beneficiary of the 2013 Wooster Urban Adventure Challenge which took place on July 20, 2013.  We thank the Wooster Urban Adventure Committee and all those who volunteered their time, sponsored the event, or donated items to the auction to make this race a success!  The race combines physical and mental strength as teams of 2-3 people solve clues to find checkpoints throughout the city of Wooster, Ohio.  Participants travel throughout the city by foot and bike during the race, and the first team to the finish line goes home with the glory of being the race winner.
