Volunteers are a crucial part of the Viola Startzman Free Clinic. None of the day to day operations could be accomplished without the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers. While our specific needs are constantly changing, the VSFC is always looking for energetic individuals with a desire to help others. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are you interested in volunteering at the Viola Startzman Free Clinic (VSFC)? Fantastic! Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.
- Do I need to have a medical or dental background if I want to volunteer at the VSFC? No. About half of our volunteers do not have a background in healthcare. We need folks with all kinds of talents to help us run the clinic.
- I work during the day. Do you have any volunteer jobs that I can do in the evening or on weekends? Yes, there are several different volunteer positions that take place on evenings or weekends, depending on your background and interests.
- What is the typical schedule and time commitment for a volunteer? The schedule varies depending on the type of volunteer position you choose. Some positions have a flexible schedule while others require that you be at the clinic at a particular time. Some positions meet only at night and others are only during the day or on weekends (when the clinic is closed). Most people volunteer once or twice per month, some volunteer three times a year, a few are here three times a week! It depends on what you are able to give.
- How do I become a volunteer? First you’ll need to complete a volunteer application. You may also contact Casey Huffman at 330-262-2500 X 107or at chuffman@startzmanfreeclinic.org. Next, you’ll need to schedule a time for a brief interview and tour. After that, we’ll set you up for training and you’ll be all set!
- What kind of training will I receive? You’ll receive a general orientation at the time of your interview and tour. At that point we’ll schedule a time for you to train with either a staff member or a volunteer.
- What do I wear when I’m volunteering? Wear clothing that’s clean and comfortable. Casual clothes and shoes are completely acceptable. As a volunteer, you’ll be given a VSFC shirt that you may wear if you’d like when you volunteer, but it isn’t mandatory.
- I still have questions. What should I do? Contact Casey Huffman at 330-262-2500 X 107or at chuffman@startzmanfreeclinic.org. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!
